DASH โ De Anza Student Handbook ยท Last updated: July 7, 2026
DASH ("the app") is a guide that helps international students join and settle in at De Anza College. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have. In short: almost all of your data stays on your device or in your personal iCloud account, and we do not run our own servers, show ads, sell data, or use analytics or tracking of any kind.
The following information is created by you inside the app and saved only on your device (and, if you link your Apple ID, in your personal iCloud โ see below):
We have no access to this information. Deleting the app, or using "Reset All Preferences" on the Profile page, removes it.
You may optionally link your Apple ID to back up and sync your preferences across your devices. When you sign in, Apple shares your name and email address with the app; they are stored on your device only. Your preferences are synced through Apple's iCloud key-value storage, which belongs to your personal iCloud account. We do not operate any server and cannot read your iCloud data. You can unlink your Apple ID or reset your preferences at any time from the Profile page.
Some features may offer sign-in with Google. If you sign in, Google shares your basic profile information (name and email address) with the app, and it is stored on your device only. Sign-in tokens are kept on your device and are removed when you sign out. Google's handling of your account is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
The app includes an optional AI assistant ("Personal Assistant"). When you send it a message, the text of your message and the recent conversation are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply. Messages are not linked to your identity by the app, and the app does not store your conversations after you close the chat. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in chat messages. Google's processing of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can disable the assistant entirely on the Profile page.
With your permission, the app uses your device's location while you are using the app solely to show your position on the campus map. Your location is never stored, logged, or sent anywhere. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
With your permission, the app lets you pick a photo from your library to use as your profile picture. Only the single photo you select is accessed; the cropped result is stored on your device (and in your iCloud backup if you link your Apple ID).
When you tap "Update Version," the app contacts Apple's iTunes lookup service to compare your app version with the latest released version. No personal information is sent with this request.
The app is intended for prospective and current college students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because your data lives on your device and in your personal iCloud account, you are always in control. To delete everything: use "Reset All Preferences" on the Profile page (which also clears the synced state if your Apple ID is linked), then delete the app.
If the app's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date revised. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store release notes.
